ABSTRACT

This research aims to investigate how credit policies of Iraqi commercial banks affect poverty levels by looking at government banks’ credit granted to the private sector. The study utilized the Distributed Self Deceleration Model (ARDL) to examine the impact of private credit on poverty reduction in Iraq during the study period. The results show a long-term equilibrium between private credit provided by government banks and poverty levels in Iraq. Additionally, the authors have recommended addressing bureaucratic barriers and streamlining the process for granting small and medium loans to support productive projects. Finally, this research has recommended reducing the number of cash loans government banks give for consumer purchases.
